Activity design in Moodle

OK, you know the basic tools, what can you do with them to support learning.  Head changes and habits that will save you and your students time.

Learning design with video clips

First presented in Chuxiong, China, June 2011
This workshop is a simple take on the Flipped Classroom. Using video clips.  Web cams, smart phones, or other video capture.

The romantic view: “Flip your instruction so that students watch and listen to your [talk and input]… for homework, and then use your precious class-time for what previously, often, was done in homework: tackling difficult problems, working in groups, researching, collaborating, crafting and creating. Classrooms become laboratories or studios, and yet content delivery is preserved.Reference

Course Design Patterns in Moodle (1.9 or 2.0)

From DEANZ conference 2010: Awareness of some basic design patterns in Moodle can help teaching staff streamline their use of Moodle and help build confidence quickly.  This session will illustrate a few of these patterns, and maybe open up a some dialogue on staff development pathways that help build confidence in designing and teaching with Moodle. We’ll also describe one critical addition to the out of the box Moodle install that we have found to be hugely beneficial.  We will be presenting a few Models for helping staff build competence and confidence in using Moodle with their classes.
